"In a landmark ruling, the Supreme Court on Wednesday (August 28, 2024) has stated that bail is the rule and imprisonment is the exception, even for individuals accused of money laundering."
The court held that Section 45 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) should not be construed by the prosecution in such a way to make bail an impossibility in money laundering cases. “Section 45 PMLA does not re-write this principle [that bail is the rule] to mean that deprivation is the norm and liberty is the exception,”
